Creative Director/Designer Steve Nelson

Steve combines more than 25 years of advertising and marketing experience with a keen and sometimes dramatic sense of design. The result is a distinctive look that carries the client messages to market with style and interest. Steve has been a creative powerhouse for a wide roster of clients in such diverse industries as agribusiness, aviation, consumer goods, telecommunications, chemicals and pharmaceuticals.

His work has ranged from advertising, direct mail and collateral materials to special promotions, catalogs, and seasonal displays.

A native of Indiana, Steve came to Kansas City in 1980 with Brewer Advertising as a senior art director. In 1982, he joined Woods Creative Group (design) as its Creative Director. In 1985, Steve joined partner Bill Johnson in forming Johnson & Nelson Inc., an agency specializing in business-to-business advertising as well as the local healthcare market. In 1988, he joined Sandven Advertising as an Associate Creative Director and after four years went out on his own as an independent creative director and designer. He affiliated with CCN in 1999.

Along the way, clients that have benefited from Steve's creative spark include BASF (ag chemicals), Bayer Animal Health, Ralston Purina, General Mills, Makhteshim-Agan of North America (ag chemicals), Conwood Corp. (consumer plant food), Mead Johnson (pharmaceuticals), Raytheon Aircraft, Acme Boot Co., Healthnet Inc., United Telephone Midwest Group, Sprint, Delicious Brands (cookies and crackers), and Hallmark.

Also, American Century, AMC Theatres, Hardee's, Hyatt Hotels, APAC Consumer Services (telemarketing), Payless Cashways, Life Care Corp., Kansas City Blades Hockey Team, Crown Center Redevelopment, Glenmore Distilleries, Ohio Arts, Finn Comfort Shoes, Energizer Batteries, and Northern Pro (Canadian fishing equipment).

Steve's work has been honored with top awards from the National Agri-Marketing Association, the New York and Kansas City Art Directors Clubs, The American Institute of Graphic Arts, and the Kansas City Ad Club.
